Environmental benefits of growing your own greens

Many people buy their herbs and greens from the store. Yes, they are somewhat fresh, but you can get the best tasting and the freshest herbs and greens if you grow them yourself. In the process, you’ll be more environmentally friendly and your food will taste even better. You just can’t match the taste of home grown greens and the delicious meals you can make with these herbs and greens. You can buy your greens from the store but when you do, you also have to take into consideration the harm it causes.

Some of the herbs and greens that you buy in the grocery store are shipped from other countries. Depending on where you live, the greens may have been shipped from over 1500 miles away, causing a lot of pollution.

Chemicals and pesticides

In commercial farming, they use a lot of synthetic fertilisers and huge amounts of pesticides that are harmful to the environment. These pesticides and other harmful substances fill our food with unhealthy chemicals. Also, when you buy from the store, you are wasting a lot of plastic, cardboard and other materials that are used for packaging.

Food waste

Many of the store-bought greens, such as basil, come in big packages. Typically, not all of it gets used before the basil gets old and has to be thrown out. With our hydroponic system, you can use the basil whenever you want, and it will still stay fresh for the next time you want to use it.

Benefits of growing your greens

By growing your own, you’ll have a smaller carbon footprint and you’ll be helping the world and the serious problem of climate change. And you’ll be eating food that has been sustainably grown. Furthermore, it has been proven that growing your own greens and herbs is a good and natural stress reliever. Better for the planet and for yourself!

What can you grow

In our hydroponic system, you can grow tomatoes, chilies and other vegetables. You can also grow a lot of different types of herbs, such as lemon balm, rosemary, basil, thyme and parsley. These are just a few examples of what you can grow in our hydroponic system - as you can see, you’ll have a large range of options. Fresh herbs and greens grown with Plaant can top off your food in a whole new way, and elevate it to an excellent dish that you can eat in peace knowing you are being environmentally friendly at the same time.
